A mercenary scout came in an hour ago, white as chalk. He saw a woman in grey standing in the water by the Nighthorn portal, singing, while the marsh rose around her like a tide. The Grey Herald has given up on the stone. She means to raise the Mother's army there and then. Whatever she calls up out of that water, put it down. Then break the grave-lantern she sings over. It is the lantern that binds the drowned to her voice. Go quickly, and when it is done, tell Aradia. She has waited longer for this than any of us.
On Completion
So she slipped away. The scouts watched it from the reeds: a woman in grey stepping back through the portal with her song still on her lips, and the thing she raised lying broken in the water behind her. We did not catch her. But we have taken her army and her lantern, and she knows now that this swamp will fight. The letters speak of a harvest in the north, and wherever she has gone, Sister Tamsin and the White Crucible will follow. You have done more for this swamp than I had any right to ask.
