Heroic Tier

The Heroic tier makes the open world harder for a character who turns it on.

What you get

5 times the kill experience, 2 times the currency from Bosses and World Quests, Heroic Essence, and Heroic gear with 50% stronger fixed stats.

What changes

Heroic creatures have at least 3× health and deal 2× damage. Higher gear scores raise both. They can carry up to 4 affixes.

Getting started

Turning it on and off

Use a Heroic Console and confirm in its panel to enter the Heroic World Tier. You must be alive and within 4 m of the console when you confirm.
Heroic Consoles stand in Coalway Woods, Coalway Swamp, and Chillwind Heights.
The console recommends level 25 or higher. A lower-level character sees a warning but can still enter.
To leave, use a Heroic Console again or right-click the Heroic World Tier buff.
The Heroic World Tier buff appears when you turn the tier on. After you die, it returns when you respawn. It can stay visible in a place where the tier is paused.
Your choice stays with that character until you turn the tier off.
The tier pauses in Barrowdeep, Duskfall Depths, Felheart Crucible, The Underglow, and Tidefallen Grotto, and in any dungeon with a timer or corruption. It resumes when you leave. A challenge-stone clock alone does not pause it.

Find each console on the map.

What changes

Heroic creatures

Heroic creatures are much tougher than usual, and they keep pace with your gear.

While the tier is on, some ordinary, Elite, Rare, and Boss creatures become Heroic. Pets and allied creatures do not. A Heroic creature can have no affix.
A Heroic creature has 3 times its normal maximum health. Your gear bonus raises this, and each affix multiplies it again.
A Heroic creature deals 2 times its normal damage, also raised by your gear bonus.
Your gear bonus grows by 0.08% for each point of gear score and stops at +100% from a gear score of 1,250. At that cap, Heroic creatures have twice the health and damage above, before affixes.
Your gear score adds up the flat stats on your equipped items, ignoring percentage stats, plus the average base damage of each equipped weapon.
While the tier is on, the world takes on a dark fel-green tint and sunlight dims.

Compare a creature at a place where Heroic Tier can be active. Only some creatures become Heroic while the tier is on.

Affixes

A Heroic creature can carry affixes, extra powers that make it more dangerous and its loot more plentiful.

Rare and Boss creatures always get at least 1 affix. Other Heroic creatures have a 25% chance of one. Each affix has an 8% chance of adding another, up to 4 different affixes.
Beacon of Chaos gives the creature 10% more health. In combat it summons up to 2 Vehlari Minions every 20 seconds while fewer than 4 of its summons are alive.
Engorged gives the creature 10% more health. When it dies it can explode, hitting you and your pets within 8 m for 30% of each one's maximum health. It does not explode if it is stunned, asleep, or rooted when it dies.
When an Engorged creature explodes, it also applies Engorged Toxin, which deals 15 magic damage 5 times over 10 seconds before damage reductions.
Fel Raiser multiplies the creature's health and damage by 1.4.
Imperious gives the creature 25% more health. In combat it pulses every 15 seconds, granting Imperiously Empowered to every other Heroic creature within 15 m. They deal 30% more damage for 10 seconds.
Creatures with at least one affix drop items at 1.5 times the usual rate. More affixes do not raise it further.

Rewards

Kill experience

A Heroic kill gives more experience. Quest experience does not change.

Kill experience from a Heroic creature is multiplied by 5 and rounded to a whole number.
An exact half rounds to the nearest even number.

Heroic Essence

Earn Heroic Essence from Heroic kills. Creature rank, affixes, and the creature's health compared with yours affect the amount.

Only characters who have Heroic Essence points earn Essence from Heroic creatures.
Elite, Rare, and Boss creatures multiply the Essence by their rank multiplier.
Creatures with more maximum health than you give more Essence, and weaker ones give less. The game divides the creature's maximum health by yours, multiplies the result by the health baseline, and keeps it within the health factor bounds. If any of these values is zero or less, it uses 1.
Fractions of Essence carry over to later kills, so partial amounts add up.
A Heroic kill starts from 3 Essence, plus 3 for each affix, and the rank and health factors then scale it.
Spend Heroic Essence in the Heroic Ascension talent tree of your class.
Unlike Talent Points, Heroic Essence does not come from the ordinary level-up grant. Your level alone cannot tell you how much you have.
Creature Rank 0 Affixes 1 Affix 2 Affixes 3 Affixes 4 Affixes
Other 3 6 9 12 15
Elite1.5× Essence 4.5 9 13.5 18 22.5
Rare2× Essence 6 12 18 24 30
Boss3× Essence 9 18 27 36 45

Essence per kill at a health factor of 1. The health baseline is 1, and the health factor stays between 0.25 and 4.

Currency

Bosses and World Quests pay more currency.

Killing a Boss while the tier is on pays 2 times its usual currency.
World Quests pay 2 times their currency while the tier is on. Their experience stays the same.

Heroic Gear

Heroic gear carries a bonus to its fixed stats and weapon damage.

While the tier is on, equipment that a creature drops can become Heroic, including world loot rolled when you kill a creature. Chest loot, crafted gear, and quest rewards do not become Heroic this way.
Heroic gear adds 50% of each fixed item stat to the stat it provides. Item Power is included. Random stat rolls, socketed gems, and enchantment bonuses are not multiplied.
A Heroic weapon adds the same 50% bonus to its weapon damage multiplier. Its tooltip rounds the minimum and maximum damage to whole numbers and calculates damage per second from them.
