Before you run back to Garran with grim tidings, there's something I'd like to try. The Heartwood you brought... it's reacting to nearby magic, pulsing like a dying heart. I need to see how it responds to fire, true fire, born of spell and stone. There's a brazier behind my tower, kept burning by old enchantments. Toss the Heartwood into it. If the flames shift, flare, or whisper... I'll know more. But be careful. If something screams, run.

The flames reacted, just as I feared. The Heartwood screamed when it burned, a sound no natural wood should make. This confirms it, the corruption runs deep, tied to blood magic and sacrifice. Take this knowledge back to Garran. He needs to know what he's truly facing in Bloodroot Hollow.
