The road under this old bridge is the only dry way between the swamp and the Greenspire Timberlands, and it's my job to keep it that way. Lately that job has been nothing but spiders. They've strung webs under every arch, and last night one of them nearly dragged a mule off a trader's cart. Clear them out, eight at least, and burn the egg-web they've spun beneath the arches east of my tower. Here, take this torch and a pot of pitch. If we lose this road, nobody gets in or out of the swamp without swimming.

Smell that? Burnt spider. Sweetest smell I’ve had in a month. The traders will be glad of it, and so am I. If you’re heading south to the Timberlands, the road is yours. Tell anyone who asks that the bridge road is open.
